Mgr. Magdalena Edlová, DiS.

The University of the Third Age (U3V) is a programme of unprofessional lifelong education designed for seniors. The applicants who have reached the retirement age or applicants receiving full disability pension can become students of U3V regardless of the age limit.

Neither the final exam from secondary school (the so-called maturita), nor the length of previous education is a condition to study at this university. Thus, students attending lectures are virtually from all fields of human activities. Lessons are conducted by the academic staff of the University of West Bohemia as well as by practicians.

A U3V student is not a student in the sense of Act No. 111/1998 Coll. about universities and all subsequent and supplementary laws and regulations. Education at the University of the Third Age has thus exclusively the character of a personality development, not a vocational training, and students are not entitled to get a university degree.

The condition for admission to U3V in the given academic year is the submission of filled in application form and the registration fee payment. Registrations take place until the depletion of auditorium capacity and the order of arrival of applicants is decisive for the enrollment in the respective subject.

Time distribution of teaching
The study of U3V ranges between one year up to three years (six semesters) with the possibility of continuation without restriction.
Study subjects are two-semester courses and study fields are four-semester courses.
Full-time courses are divided into blocks (90 minutes), lessons are held once every two weeks.
Winter semester (September to January) 12 to 16 lessons
Summer semester (January to May) 12 to 16 lessons

Practical lessons, excursions or lectures in the field are included in the course. In this case, the number of hours is increased.
